The new SvN footer on article pages is the right mix of tackling the “dead end” issue without bombarding the user with images. Also, they boldly auto-hide the comments. I think we’ll be seeing more “friction” added to comments on popular blogs.
The best part of Quartz? There is no article page. The stories just roll right into one another. I wonder the effect that has on serendipity (and pageviews).
